What’s in A Date?

In the majority of the world today, if you take a coin or bill out of your pocket, purse or wallet and look at it carefully, you will find a date either stamped or printed on it. The dates will be different, but, with the exception of only a few countries that use Hebrew or Islamic calendars, they have one unique thing in common. Each date that you will see represents an accrued time that once existed on a universal clock. The clock was started by the most significant singular world-changing event that has occurred since civilization itself began, and is so unusual in nature, that it divides history, time and mankind itself. That same clock is counting seconds, minutes, hours, days and years right now, as you read this page.

That event that started the clock was the birth of a man named Jesus Christ who was born in a small town named Bethlehem. He was, and still is, the supernatural Son of God! Today, almost two thousand years later, history and mankind remain divided over the unique incarnation of God in human form, named Jesus.

As the twenty first century dawns, the universal clock and it’s dating system, are still used throughout the industrialized world. It is used for scheduling, to timestamp international monetary transactions and to track commodity transfers of all types. Its acceptance transcends nationalities, ethnic groups and religions. Regardless of how it came into being, the majority of the civilized world still uses the calendar that is based on the birth of a Jewish carpenter who grew up in a little town called Nazareth. His birth changed the world forever.

To some, He is Lord and Savior. To others, He is an offense. I have never met anyone who claimed to be offended by Buddha, Mohammed or the founder of any other religion. Why is it that some people find Jesus Christ so offensive? I believe that it is because our inner being is genetically responsive to the authority of God. We are created with a spiritual “hole” that only He can fill. God’s authority extends over the entire universe and our very souls. He has been the ruler since the beginning of time itself, is the ruler now and will be the ruler throughout eternity and every soul, both living and dead feels that authority, like it or not. A person is offended by Christ when their soul is grieved, knowing that they are living contrary to God’s will. It is called conviction. Interestingly, that same genetically encoded kernel of the soul isn’t the least bit affected by Buddha, Mohammed or any other religious leader and that phenomenon, in itself, should be a clue.

Jesus existed before God made the earth. He existed before Satan became prideful and fell. He existed before any earthly works-based religion sprang forth. Proverbs 8:22-30 states “The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Jesus Christ is God! Our proof is in the gospel of John 10:24-31 “Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.”

Jesus is the only bearer of the gift of eternal life. Ephesians 4:6-8 says ” One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.”

Jesus alone has the ability to change your destiny. Rev 1:18 “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”

None of us knows how long we will live and none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow. Although those who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and have a relationship with Him are certain where they will spend eternity, there are many people that still live their lives wondering what will happen to their consciousness and memories, their soul as it is called, when physical death finally arrives. When Adam and Eve sinned against God in the Garden of Eden, our souls were all condemned to spiritual death. Because God the Father loves us with a supernatural love, He has provided a ransom, a redeemer, in Christ Jesus. Based on your personal decision, when the inevitable finally occurs, your soul containing your memories, personality and your identity will go to one of two places.

If you have accepted God’s redemption through Jesus Christ’s sacrificial gift, your soul will reside in heaven with the ruler of the universe. If you reject that gift of redemption through Jesus Christ, your soul, that has already been condemned, will spend eternity in torment in the lake of fire along with Satan and his fallen ones.

If, right now, you have not yet accepted Jesus as your personal Savior, you can. There is nothing you can do to make Him love you more than He already does, and there is nothing you could have done that will cause Him to turn His back on you. He created you and He loves you with a supernatural love that we, as humans, cannot even understand. Everything that God and Christ have done has been accomplished so that you will come to Him. Please pray this prayer from your heart and your life will be changed forever.

Heavenly Father – I know that I am a sinner and I’m sorry. Please forgive me and let the precious blood of Jesus, that was shed for me, cover my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected to sit at your right hand. I know that you poured out your wrath on Jesus, instead of me, and I ask you now to speak to my heart and to change my life. I ask you to make me a new creature and to make me one of your children. Jesus, as you gave your life for me, I give my life to you. In your precious and Holy name I pray – Amen.
